About Us

The Stickney Fire Department came into existence in 1967. Prior to that date, the village was serviced by the City of Berwyn. The department presently consists of one full-time chief, full time secretary and approximately fifty paid on-call members. There are four personnel on duty in the fire station at all times to take care of walk-in patients and to aid in the quick response of emergencies. The village has a class 4 rating with the Insurance Service Organization, an organization which grades fire departments to help determine insurance premiums on residences and businesses. The class 4 rating is an excellent rating.

The department provides not only fire protection, but also ambulance service and other services to village residents, such as lock-out of resident’s home, checking appliances or smoke detectors for malfunction, and assisting in community affairs. Periodic lectures are given to students in our local schools on fire safety and instructions are given to the teachers in the use of C.P.R.

The Fire Prevention Bureau of the department performs routine inspections of all industrial and commercial buildings in the corporate limits of the village. In 1992, the department co-purchased with six other municipalities, a fire safety trailer to help instruct young students about safety in the home and to show them the proper use of the phone and also evacuation procedures in case of emergency.

The department offers free transportation of village residents to the hospital for tests if the party is bedridden or disabled. From 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., a resident may stop in the fire house to receive a blood pressure check, free of charge.
